Adas Polo Ba Morgh – Lentil Rice with chicken

Adas polo is one of the most famous and popular Iranian cuisines, and it can be cooked with chicken as well. Adas polo o morgh is a simple and delicious dish that doesn’t take long to make either. 

The combination of chicken and lentils is very good, and everyone likes it. It is one of the Iranian dishes make with chicken.

You can make Adas polo o morgh using several methods. You can use either diced or shredded chicken meat. Choose whichever method you prefer. You can even mince the meat. 

How to make Adas polo ba morgh?

Follow the steps below to make this delicious dish:

Step 1- Preparation 

Soak the rice for 30 minutes. Soak the raisins and barberries. Drain them. 

Step 2- Prepare the chicken 

Chop one of the onions. Cook the chicken meat with 4 cups of water, spices, turmeric, and cinnamon for 30-40 minutes.

Take the chickens out of the pot and sauté them. You can shred them and sauté with some onion, turmeric, spice, and pepper.

Step 3- Cooking the lentils 

Cook the lentils with 4 cups of water for 20 minutes and until they soften. Don’t let them get mushy. 

Step 4- Adding rice to the lentils 

Add rice to the lentils. Add salt. After the rice turns Al dente, sieve it. (You can make adas polo as Kateh too.)

Step 5- Steam the Adas Polo 

If you’d like to, prepare some bread tahdig. Pour the rice into the pot. Place the chickens on top of the rice. Close the lid and let the rice steam for 40-50 minutes. 

Chop the second onion and sauté in a pan. Add turmeric, Curry spice, and some salt.

Sauté the raisins. Sauté the walnuts for around one minute as well.

Serve Adas polo ba morgh with the sautéed raisins, onion, and walnuts after the rice finishes steaming. 

 

Tips:

You can steam the rice with one spoonful of dried dill. 

A fantastic suggestion: sauté a few dates in some oil and serve them with Adas polo.

  • 3 cup Rice
  • 1 cup Lentils
  • 4 pieces Chicken (breast and thigh)
  • 2 Onions
  • 3 tbsp Raisins
  • 2 tbsp Walnut optional
  • ¼ tbsp Cinnamon powder
  • Enough salt, black pepper, spices and turmeric

Instructions

  • Soak the rice for 30 minutes. Soak the raisins and barberries. Drain them.

Adas polo with chicken is a delicious Iranian food. It’s easy to make and also quick to prepare. The combination of lentils, rice, and chicken is very delicious, especially when some cinnamon is added to make it aromatic. 

Adas polo with ground beef is another version of Adas polo, which is also a great combo.
